An Old Friend and a New Dress: Dale

Posted in: Blog Aug 7 2014

Dale is a dear friend from years ago when Priscilla worked in an alterations shop in Southern New Jersey. Though Priscilla has since moved on and set up shop here in Huntingdon Valley, PA, Dale has always followed our business and kept in touch from Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

When Dale was invited to her childhood friend’s son’s wedding, she knew she needed a very special, one-of-a-kind dress. She wanted something modern yet traditional – and definitely something that would not overshadow her long-time friend and mother of the groom.

As many women do, Dale wanted to address what she believes to be her “problem area,” her stomach. We decided to go with a peplum-style gown to balance out her proportions and flatter her silhouette.

Of course, as a couture designer, Priscilla could not just give Dale a simple peplum. We decided to give it an un-done look. We kept it asymmetrical with a mix of lace and chiffon. This gave it an avant garde style, keeping it unexpected and unique

Dale knew she wanted a jewel tone fabric with plenty of construction to keep its shape. We decided to keep the look soft with a blue organza layered over top of taffeta to maintain the form underneath.

This fabric, along with the peplum, gave Dale a lovely hourglass silhouette.

We also decided to cover Dale’s knees- another place she does not like to accentuate, yet we did not want to create a long gown. We ended up added an illusion hem as a final touch, to keep the dress short yet flattering

The dress turned out so nicely – a very simple design without beading or too many embellishments. It is truly the perfect dress for a special wedding guest.

Dale is so happy with her design and we could not be more thankful that our old friend came to pay us a visit and to have a handmade gown designed just for her!
