As a bridal atelier, we see a lot of brides-to-be and their mothers. Fathers tend to stay out of the equation when it comes to the finer details of the wedding, yet we have no intention of forgetting how truly important they are to us.
Our fathers helped to raise us, watched us grow and supported us through the ups and downs that ultimately made us into who we are today. Though we do not see many fathers come into our studio, they are always on our minds and in our hearts as we prepare to take the next big steps of our lives.
One story that is especially near and dear to me is an appointment with a bride who did happen to bring her father with her. It was her final fitting for her bespoke wedding gown and her father came to support her. Visibly uncomfortable in such different surroundings than he was used to, the bride’s father simply sat and watched the fitting quietly.
At the end of the appointment, he paid for his daughter’s dress and two left the studio. As I was walking down the steps of the studio to go to my workspace, I glanced out the window and something caught my eye.
The father and daughter were standing outside, hugging and crying quietly. They had waited until they were outside to show each other just how they were feeling. That embrace was one of the most touching and moving moments I have ever had the privilege of seeing and though they do not know what I saw, I will never forget.
I am so thankful to have such a loving husband who has helped me to raise my beautiful children. Though they may be too young to realize now, they have so much to thank him for, as do I.
On this Father’s Day we want to remember how much our fathers do to help us learn and grow and find our way. Whether they are teaching us how to ride a bike, or walking us down the aisle, we do not know where we would be without our wonderful fathers.
