Memorial Day is the unofficial start to summer and the kickoff to wedding season. With friends and families gathering during Memorial Day weekend to honor those men and women who served the United States, it is the perfect time to come together for a wedding.
Military couples often decide to plan their weddings on Memorial Day as a tribute to the service they do for their country. Female soldiers do so much to keep America safe and they deserve to have a special day, the wedding of their dreams.
A Memorial Day wedding is often done up in a red, white and blue theme. In order to keep it elegant and simple, try a color palette of crisp white with subtle blue and red accents in the flowers or the linens.
A yellow ribbon symbolizes a soldier’s return home and looks lovely when tied around the stems of a bouquet or boutonniere, especially if anyone the wedding party has a loved one serving overseas at the time.
By keeping food to traditional American cuisine, you can reinforce your Memorial Day theme. Try gourmet hamburgers and hotdogs with cranberry infused drinks garnished with blueberries and raspberries to give the spread some color.
Picnic-like details can keep the reception festive and casual if the celebration is taking place outside, with wildflowers and red and white gingham table clothes. A more sophisticated route can be taken with simple patriotic elements, like a display of old black and white military photos of friends and family.
Whatever way you choose to celebrate you Memorial Day wedding, it is sure to be a beautiful, patriotic celebration filled with love, laughter and wonderful memories.
