Such beautiful relationships can grow from the process of making a dress together. One of our long-time clients, Carol, needed a dress for her daughter’s wedding and came straight to us to have a bespoke gown made just for her.
She wanted something unique, tailored to her taste and shape, and one of a kind. This mother of the bride would not have to worry about walking into her daughter’s wedding to see another woman in the same dress.
We created this green lace dress from scratch after working closely with Carol to design the perfect gown for her.
Initially, we came up with the idea of a plain top with a belt at the waist. We wanted to add solid trim on the three-quarter-length sleeve and the neckline. You can see from the first sketch how we collaborated with Carol to develop the dress, but as we worked together, things began to change.
Good designs evolve and change as time goes on. Our first idea was beautiful, but the final product is so much better. We created a Pinterest board for inspiration and continued to discuss the design until we realized a belt was unnecessary and a fuller skirt would be more flattering. We went for a circle skirt with added godets to give the bottom some volume. Rather than thicker trim, we opted for something smaller and more delicate.
As we worked with Carol, we were also given the opportunity to work on her daughter, Arianne’s, wedding gown, originally purchased at Yes to the Dress Bridal here, in Huntingdon Valley. We added sleeves to the dress and redesigned the neckline to cater to the bride’s unique and lovely taste.
To work alongside two such beautiful women with such vibrant personalities was an amazing experience. You can see how much love they have for one another as soon as they walk into a room. The way they interact with each other is so incredible, both having so much fun together.
These are the relationships we are so honored to create at Priscilla Costa. The chance we have to work so closely with our clients and to become friends with them so quickly is one of the things we love most about our work.
